Andy, In Germany, a farmer actually paid off his mortgage on the farm with the proceeds from selling one egg. Now that's inflation. From "The Pennyless Billionaires."

In deflation, the worker takes advantage of bankruptcy laws. He uses homesteading to keep his home. He grows a garden. Sells tomatoes on the corner to servants buying for that nice Gates family from up the hill. Gets to ride for free on any train he can catch. ("You can't hop a jet plane, like you can a freight train." Gordon Lightfoot.)

In general, the worker gets screwed in inflation, deflation and noflation.
