I think I would feel better about laughing at such a joke (in public) if the person telling it was Irish and believed in Jesus
if the person telling the joke believes in what is being mocked, and tells it anyway, it is different than if someone else tells it
I feel the same about blacks who choose to call each other certain words that as a white person I would never use
it is ok for them, but it is not ok for me

What I find funniest about that joke is...
I've heard almost exactly the same joke, except told by a Jew (my grandfather, actually, although I really doubt he invented it) - and it begins "How do we know Jesus was Jewish?"...
