SA is grassland warm temperate climate. Previously glaciated, shield geology, with some greenstone belts. It's present politics (land claims, troubles, financial policies) and seemingly pro world bank-america stance make it a poor place to invest now. Some people are chasing offshore diamonds et al off the coast. If you can repatriate your money and don't pay 3rd parties for their dredge equipment, you might make it. Financial repatriation is becoming an increasing question in SA as it is a thorny issue in all African countries. Ghana is the sole country to guarantee a level, but Anglo people told me that they had trouble there too in the past. You could never cash a cheque for spares going to a foreign location. That may have been a function of who they were in part too. It seems probable that SA's economy will degenerate in the same way that their society has quickly degenerated and the whites will all leave. This will not break the heart of the blacks of course. I predict civil war in SA in less than 10 years.

I note that people who set up plants in SA with SA people doing the consulting generally had to rebuild them in order to get them to work right. There could be a few things operating there, but I think it could be that they were not meant to work right. That could also be the factor that made some of the offshore diamond concessions fail recently with Diamondfields. I note that it was next to impossible to raise money in Canada for African ventures offshore, or onshore for that matter in SA. I had tried a few things in Natal to no avail on Bay street.
