Hi Lee,

Nemer and I live in Texas.

I go to Shreveport for two days every other week to buy used cars. They have a very good auction that features country driven vehicles vs those abused in Houston traffic.

I find the people extremely friendly and the town small enough to know many people and yet big enough to have most of the city features.

Can't say much about crime - I've run the asphalt trail along the red river many nights into the darkness and never had a problem.I usually go out ot eat at night with the auction employees and we go every where.I'm afraid every place has crime but I've not heard about it being out of line in Shreveport.BWDIK

If I was getting transfered to Shreveport I'd go with a good smile on my face - often thought it would be a good town to buy a dealership in.

Hope you find it as pleasant as I have.

Bob

Lee ....

I live in Paris, Tx ... about a hundred and fifty miles from Shreveport ....

The base is, like too many of our military facilities, old.
However, it is well maintained and functions nicely.

As to the home situation, my only experience is strictly visual observation.
Now, I have been to a lotsa Catholic churches in both Bossier and Shreveport. My favorite is one hidden in the woods, just inside the loop and Airline drive. The neighborhood out there is really nice.
The closest I could come to a recco for housing would be Noth of I-20 and East of Hwy 1..... the immediate area around the base is indeed somewhat seedy.

I do have several good friends who live in the Shreveport area and I'll ask them for some ideas.... I am also favorably impressed with the older houses around Cross Lake.
As Bob said, the folks there are really friendly, and I'd not be fearful of moving.

The casino boats on Big Red are a major draw for tourists, (I've never made a single bet at/on the boats) making the motel prices a tad bit high *(for me).
For a couple of dozen years I had a trailer house out on Caddo Lake, vicinity of Oil City ... used it for a stopover for going to the track, fishing, and duck hunting ...... the duck hunting is GREAT in that area.....

There are a lot of very nice small towns/hamlets around the metro area, especially north and east *(same general area as I mentioned above) and I feel sure there are similar spots all around there of which I have NO knowledge.

If there is any way I can help you, let me know .....

Nemer
