Sharper than any doubleedged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. You might like to consider the parallel in Southern India of the same divine principal embodied in Lord Murugan , the eternal youth , who holds the " Shakti Vel " , or double~edge spear:murugan.org This is very ancient stuff JK , for Lord Murugan is the Son Siva . But in brief the Vel , or Lord Murugan's two-edged lance is wide , long and sharp signifying incisive discrimination and spiritual knowledge which must be broad, deep and penetrating . The Shakti Vel is the deadly foe of to the arrogant lower nature; yet the awakened soul offers strength in the face of adversity. The elegant Mayil or or peacock is the associated vahanna or vehicle of Lord Murugan . Mayil, the slayer of serpents, is swift like Murugan Himself whose grace subdues the bonds of our lower nature. It symboliizes His conquest over ego , vanity, and pride . You may like to think that there is some monopoly in understanding something of divine in your scriptures and depiction of "God"...but like the Spanish missionaries that first arrived on the shore of southern India , they found a beautiful form of worship for the beauty and mysteries of life already there , and existing far back before the time of Jesus . They have a Bible in Southern India that dates back some 300yrs before Jesus Christ , written by a humble weaver/Saint , that has been unaltered for over 2.3 millinea from out of part of the world's oldest living religion . Quite a lovely piece of work it is , that Mahatma Ghandi called one of the world's finest treasures. Have you ever heard of it ?
