Belief is a product of trial and error. One has to start with something called honor and we use this address this to all man kind. The word honor i tie to integrity which then becomes the word honest to all. That translates as being honest to myself and recognizing there is merit in my beliefs or they would not be my beliefs.

Our honor starts by integrity and the truth then becomes a very visible presence applicable to the time period we attempt to understand.

Edit self is growth, edit others is fear of self non belief.

I see your point of view.

IMHO, lots of folks also need to see clearly what the U.S. had done in some foreign countries.

For example, the U.S. had, in many instances in the past, set up dictatorial puppet regimes in the name of realpolitik (national interests) to combat communism or whatever. In too many of these instances, many people suffered greatly, to put it mildly. But strangely enough, the U.S. seemed to have equated the suffering of those people with the suffering of the enemy and so they did nothing about it. (Or it believed that many of the folks who suffered were enemies and so it was OK: it was the- end-justifies-the-means sort of thing, you know).

Well, as we all know, the U.S. is being continually forced to protect/defend itself. The conflicts the U.S. got involved abroad were conflicts it brought upon itself through meddling with other people's internal affairs.

Americans at home have been so parochial in their outlook that they were virtually blind to what horrors their beloved country has brought upon innocent folks elsewhere in the past. But, just when Americans begin to notice their plight, the propaganda machine gets into gear to show what skullduggery is being perpetrated by some people against their own people elsewhere ---- and that this calls for U.S. action/interference!!! And this, in turn, has generated further negative reaction against the U.S.

It is not that folks elsewhere are jealous of the material wealth and fearful of the might of the U.S. that is responsible for their negative reaction towards it. This is a sadly mistaken and naive notion often touted by the poorly informed and/or misguided/biased folks in an attempt to explain others' negative reaction/hostility towards the U.S.

In the last analysis, it would seem best for the U.S. to adopt an isolationist policy (as was the case prior to 1941) and let the rest of the world find its equilibrium. But, unfortunately it will not do that as it is afraid of being overtaken and overcome; and it must forever poke its nose into other people's business. And so, it seems the present drama of action and reaction, accusation and self-justification, propaganda and counter-propaganda, attack and defense will have to go on and on????????????????????????

Of course, there are folks who disagree with me. Not surprising! You see, for any observation there could be interpretations and interpretations for it. Needless to say, there are always experts or pseudo-experts or selfstyled experts who will contend that their particular interpretation has to be the right one. As I have mentioned on this thread and elsewhere: "A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still."
