you obviously didn't listen to the suncom conference calls at that time, which were MANAGEMENT LED pumpfests, at best. you're off base.

I did listen to most of the CC's. I'm not clear on what you mean by pumpfest. They bragged about higher growth than other computer makers. They bragged about taking market share. They bragged about record numbers in those quarters where they set records. They usually gave relatively accurate projections, i.e. they usually hit within a penny or two of consensus. This was all reflected in numbers.

They didn't say "you better mortgage your house and jump into these shares or you'll miss the boat, they're a steal at 9 times sales" or anything along those lines. This was during a bubble. Just about anybody's CC could have been considered a pumpfest during those years (including the ones from MSFT where they transparently lowballed guidance so they could beat it by 5 cents). What did Sun management do that was so different from what everybody else who was making money did (and of course many who were losing money)?

The only thing I think you might be referring to is that they made a bigger deal out of Java than was warranted.
