Doc, what a ridiculous article by Arthur Waldron. For example <The only way China can possibly create enough jobs for its immense population is by adopting a free-market entrepreneurial economic system, in which the state's role is limited to the provision of justice and arbitration according to clear and legitimate rules. >

That's ideological cant. We might wonder if the USA might try Arthur's suggestion. Nowhere on earth is the suggestion taken seriously, including in the tariff, quota and otherwise government-suffocated land of the not very free and not very brave.

Surprisingly enough, of the 6 billion people on earth, despite Arthur's suggestion not being taken seriously anywhere, nearly all of them are gainfully employed, trying to better their lives in voluntary commercial and social interaction [other than the government sector which is notoriously kleptocratic, confiscatory, repressive and destructive].

If Arthur was to look at Japan, he would see a country which has had nearly full employment for over half a century and made vast economic gains. His theory is a load of nonsense.

He's making irrational anti-China ranting.

Blah blah blah: <...This risk-laden charade cannot continue indefinitely. Zhu's words may mean that the Party has decided to get serious -- but don't bet the farm on that. Meanwhile, for the rest of us, it is time to rethink a lot of comfortable assumptions and begin taking more seriously China's large potential downside.>

I bet he thinks the greenhouse effect is going to drown us all and the Malthusian world population woes are coming true. In the Booms Busts and Recoveries zone, a lot of people think the same can be said for the USA, Japan and elsewhere... Subject 37210 He should join the Gloom and Doomster's Club, take some serotonin reuptake inhibitors, have a nice cup of tea and a lie down.
