The VIX/VIXN debate; another thought is to pay more attention to where each are within Bollinger bands, as opposed to an exact numerical value. Over the last month (or maybe longer) both have been in the bottom half seeking higher values, almost 100% of the time, yet the markets have failed to go net higher. Additionally, the VIX bollinger band is starting to tighten up, noticeably. The VIXN band will probably do the same, soon. Draw your own conclusions, but it would probably be wise to think about probabilities, that is if you believe the VIX/VIXN has some merit.
