Wireless expectations slip for '3G' advances

Herschel Shosteck of The Shosteck Group research company estimates that it would probably cost $300 billion for all the carriers to roll out 3G in the United States.

"The cost of deploying will be much greater than any revenue it could generate," Shosteck said. "Previously, the industry did itself a disservice by emphasizing high data rates. Now it's focusing on profitable data services."
