chinton:

OK, agreed. However, your statement taken along side with Richnorths's response makes my point perfect. While all you say was going on in Europe, America kept watch.

America kept watch throughout the civil unrest of the 60's and the Viet Nam war.
America kept watch throughout inflationary times of the 70's.
America kept watch throughout the 80's and brought down the Berlin Wall.
America kept watch throughout the early 90's while the gulf war was raging.

How long has America been the breadbasket of the world? Has America withheld Food like OPEC has withheld Oil? I know America is not perfect but it is not the warmonger that Egnima infers.

Having spent the 50s, 60, and half of the 70's bopping back an d forth between Europe and the USA, I can say for sure Europeans did not experience the cold war as we did...They were as offended or confused by the USA's presumed hegemony as they were scared of the Soviet's empirialism. The Good USA versus the Evil Communist Empire just didn't sell in Europe, in the way it did here...While Europeans have been grateful for American military might in two world wars, they generally find American Culture and Politics naive, if not tacky. Americans to this day are considered exuberant adolescents, filled with energy but of questionable judgement...BTW, should we start a NEW IMPROVED GOLD PRICE MONITOR thread for those of us who are still interested in the subject?
