We quit. That little corner of the world between the Indian and Pacific Oceans was strategically important. Spoiled rotten flower children caused so much internal strife and dissention that the politicos tried to micromanage the war to keep from getting egg on their face. Once we got a politician in there who knew what the heck to do, we quit. Unlike the wars fought under Presidents Reagan, George H. W. Bush, and George W. Bush, where the objective and the orders were clear resulting in a worthwhile outcome, our Viet Nam experience was a shameful waste. We quit.

...advisors from 57, escalated the war in 65... Didn't you conveniently miss a few steps in there, in between?

What were all those inspiring Kennedy speeches about, anyway?
