You have a good point there, Ann. I think Viet Nam was a waste because of the half-hearted way we went about it (at home, not in the field). It did indeed teach us a good lesson and hopefully we will never make the same mistake again. It is rather instructive when one collectively thinks his own homeland is at risk. Suddenly, it is OK to be a hero and not OK to put flowers in the muzzles of rifles. We are reaping the benefits of a lesson well-learned by large numbers of Americans who are now hanging in there for an even more strategic struggle. They are aware that quitting this time would result in the loss of their own homeland not someone else's.
