Like I say, it was a story at the time, but quite likely could have been an "urban myth". I suppose most of the people who would know are dead, with the exception of Teddy, and I am not sure how much he was in the loop. The story might have originated just to burnish his reputation, maybe at the expense of LBJ, or to try to make some sense out of the assassination. One of the many things about JFK we may never learn; I hope all the secret stuff would be released before I die of old age.
