Hey great link, thanks Will!

AlGaN alloy is useful for UV optical devices because of its wide bandgap and direct transition emission between 3.4eV and 6.2eV

That'd do it. It's a direct jump. That's convenient.

Since AlN is a piezoelectric maybe the energy can be modulated with an electric field? SOunds like a lot of work still needs to be done on it. Have I got a deposition process for them <VBG>.

Will,
I would like to thank you for posting this link a few months ago. It has been very educational and the information on that sight is terrific. I have spent a few hours reading different presentations there and have substantially increased my understanding in a number of areas.

gracias!
