" Plus AMD also makes flash and chipsets. What is the difference. "

But, AMD has relied on FASL to make the flash and UMC to make the chipsets...

Until recently, that is. Still, if Intel needs all of that fab capacity to make those things, it sounds like an allocation of resources problem.

Ah yes, all of those other businesses, the ones losing a bil. a quarter is responsible. Sure, and I am a monkeys uncle.

The 440BX (for which I played a major role) has sold over 162 million units at last count, probably the highest selling device in history on a single stepping. For every 440BX there was a PIIX. That makes 324 million units for those alone, minimum. That's just an example of course because those components are low volume now but you quoted 32.5 million CPU+ for Intel's volume. Intel is still the largest chipset manufacturer so I simply used 25 million as the number of chipsets to go with those 32.5 million CPUs. A northbridge and a southbridge, thus the 50 million number. It doesn't count any other components so the number is probably higher.

BTW, what's your Nephews name?
