Hello Letmebe Frank

Crater facies and even diatreme kimberlite is not particularly hard especially if you blast first! What will be hard is permafrost but not beyond the means of such equipment.

By the by, a frequent TWG shorter and thread poster previously raised the fear mongering specter that JI limestone pit walls would be unstable requiring increased excavation at a lower angle, therefore a higher waste to ore ratio. Just once I would like to see this individual back up his theories with some consistent facts.

I was meaning to address this before but got tied up, however this seems as good a time as any.

PERMAFROST!

Not sure if you read that NG article I mentioned last month but if you did you would have seen a paragraph on the depth of permafrost at Siberian pits. If I recall, the article reported permafrost down to 1,400 feet at the Mir pit, which had to be broken out with blasting and jack hammers.

I think everyone has read of the strength of ice roads by now. Well these ones are on land and northern Baffin Island isn't southern B.C. Need I say more!

Regards

Vaughn
