SEND BILL PERSONAL PRIVILEGE: SEND BILL?
Continued war and terror in the Mideast isn't helping business.

by Gayle Essary

Okay, if Prince Abdullah of Saudi Arabia can have an idea that will advance the cause of peace in the Mideast, why can't we? When brainstorming through a seemingly insoluble problem, the rule is: no idea is too crazy to interject.

So here goes: send Bill.

It wouldn't be the first time that a President has sent a former President of the opposite party on a mission, and shouldn't be the last. If present Presidents are secure in their leaderships, what better signal could be sent of that leadership?

This is not a U.S. political party problem. It's a global problem, requiring every available resource to resolve.

The Mideast and its continued violence is not only harming people and nations, but it's not good for business. We should use all our resources to resolve this, and now that President Bush has decided to throw the U.S. into the middle of this conflict, he should take due note that no one has been closer to the brink of peace in the Mideast than William Jefferson Clinton. And few people in the world are better at sitting people down around a table and creating conciliation out of animosity. Clinton has shown a willingness to bring shuttle diplomacy to its ultimate --- personally shuttling back and forth between cabins in the dark of night if necessary.

Maybe everything is well in hand. Dick Cheney seems capable and experienced enough.

But the U.S. shouldn't let this moment pass if dividing up Jerusalem or something else becomes a sticking point. Clinton is not above naming the town something else if necessary, or building another one! Or assigning visitation rights. If it's Tuesday, it must be "our" Jerusalem!

No idea, and no person should be summarily dismissed. This dang war has been going on for about 5,000 years too long already! Send Bill or threaten them with sending Bill, whatever works!
