<<That's just as absurd as a lawsuit to recover damages for something that happened 150 years ago.>>

It may be. But lets consider the landscape for a moment. There are groups of people seeking payments for transgressions that took place 100-200 years ago by people that are no longer alive. All peoples of the United States would essentially be held accountable. What bothers me is that none of us are responsible for what took place before we were born. But these groups have been successful in making their followers and an additional % of the population feel guilty thus adding a degree legitimacy or support to the cause. This is where I part ways with those who feel that guilt. I don't support the notion of slavery, I didn't kill the Indians and I feel NO GUILT for what took place because I didn't foster those beliefs. Are they terrible events that took place in our history? Yes! But that doesn't make me responsible for them. NFW!! If other people feel guilty about those events then I say speak with your own pocketbook. But when this is said to the "guilt ridden" they bristle. Why do they bristle? Because they hold an opinion or guilt complex, yet in most cases, they have not acted with PERSONAL financial aid to the very causes they believe in. That is not my problem - its theirs! And for people to expect others to pay for THEIR feelings of guilt about an issue that we had NO CONTROL over is total BS. So I say in an effort to defuse this type of litigation in the future that we be open to the recovery of all costs on both sides of the issue. The civil war was expensive and cost many lives both black and white. It was an ugly time in our history that I hope we don't repeat. We can either choose to keep reliving an event that we can't change or move forward as a nation and a people. Not a nation of races, religions, genders etc.......As a NATION OF PEOPLE! There is no benefit to division other than to slow the growth and evolution of our great Country. Progress and inclusion can and will NEVER be an offshoot of division - period. Untied we stand divided we fall. It's time to shed light on what these divisive, self serving groups are all about before we fall prey to their BS. So back to my initial remark

The result is I don't think any sort of rational financial settlement can be reached as far as its true societal cost in today's dollars. It would seem to me that a more logical lawsuit would be to sue their own relatives of today for occupying 50% of the jails when the "African American" culture itself only represents 12% of the population. That is a cost that can be measured and quantified!

Is this opinion really absurd? It might be but IMO we as a country should stop at almost nothing to discredit, alienate and humiliate the people who push the above agenda. Louis Farrakhan, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson preach hate and division while they cloak themselves in purity behind their religion. This as they profit and steal from the unrest they create in their followers. There is nothing American in what they condone - NOTHING! So if fending off their assertions that WE OWE them by using lawsuits makes me sound absurd or racist - so be it! There will be NO SYMPATHY AND NO FINANCIAL REWARD FOR RINGING THE DIVISION BELL!
