So why doesn't this "more E" keep the mets in check even more?

I haven't seen this addressed in the literature. However, I would speculate that once the 'mets' are awakened from their dormant state, a different chemistry applies. ... somewhat akin to the differences between a seed and a sprout in Botany.

It's conceivable that E has a role in keeping the 'mets' dormant, but once awakened E is less effective or ineffective. ... Which would support MZ's opinion of E not being a "Eureka" type of breakthrough.

In any case, I fully agree with your corollary and my insufficient knowledge with regard to shedding light on this enigma.
