I'm happy with my old Le Creuset, supplemented with a few teflon pans, but what do I know? Except that the screw on handles on the lids of the big pots have had big pieces broken off from being dropped so they look like junk. I'm sure there's a way of getting those replaced but it seems as though I ought to do some filing and clean the closets first.

Writing this made me put Le Creuset into google and there's a Contact Le Creuset option, so I just asked them!

IMO, go with simple Calphalon. It's beautifully made, unbreakable, heats evenly, won't discolor a white sauce, and can be put in the oven as well.

I have a jumbo Corning Visions pot. The reason I like it is that you can see through it and know when the water is going to boil over. I have a Visions saucepan, too, for cooking rice for the opposite reason--you can see without opening it when all the water is absorbed. And a twelve inch T-Fal skillet, which is absolutely flat, as required for use on my smoothtop stove, cooks very evenly, is durable, and can be cheaply replaced at Walmart periodically. I have no real use for any other stovetop pieces. I have a wonderful, sturdy, teflon-covered griddle pan that I use in the over for roasting. And some Corning pieces suitable for microwave, stovetop, storage, and serving. I'm way past the point in life where I crave a matched set of pots. FWIW.

I've had a set of All-Clad stainless for the last 7 years and have been very satisfied with it. Calphalon is excellent too, though perhaps more expensive, and I have some concerns about the anodized finish getting scratched.

Just in case you're not familiar with it, here's a link to Epinions.com--a great place to get others' opinions on a wide variety of products. Here are the All-Clad reviews:
