Since seaman is a profession that allows you out of your country without having to leave illegally, the occupation is dominated by people who are trying to get out of 3rd World countries. The crews are frequently mid-Easterners or Asians. The Malaysians and Filipinos are sometimes (and even, often) Muslim. I bet some are even sympathetic to al Qaeda.
