Yes, I think she can, and that the expression of her desire to not engage in ongoing ugliness can be taken at face value. But if there are those who want for their own reasons to sabotage X's desire for a mode-change from antagonism to civility, maybe it's sabotageable, I don't know. It would be if she were I. Argument is hardly anathema for me and I get pissed at certain things, so if I were continually poked with a stick, I'd be sure to fall off the civility wagon myself. (Doesn't that surprise you to death, Bill?!)
