"Damned if you do, and damned if you don't" Not really. AMD just needs to follow through on their TPI. They will probably have to go it alone, since all of their competitors in x86 have gone the "higher clock rate, lower IPC" route. They need to have a complete suite of benchmarks that can be distributed on CDs of run off the Internet, and that would spit out a graph or a set of numbers for various categories of use. This way you could compare a P4 and an Athlon machine, head to head.
