Charlie, the journalists did stick up for the book writer in Texas, as I recall. It was big brother Texas who wanted to get her notes.

You may think that is the problem with journalists- but I don't really see your examples as being very relevant to what you say, nor do I see much evidence for your proposition in general. Many people like to feel they have a mission in life, I am sure journalists are no exception. I see evidence that some journalists feel they are performing a necessary service for society, that makes it a better place (some, not all) and that is about as far as it goes, imo.
