What you describe isn't happening. In fact, the opposite is occurring. Hundreds of thousands of African-Americans have moved from the lower class to the middle class in the past two decades, yet a greater percentage of blacks votes Democratic than at any time in recent history.

The Rodriguez defeat will turn thousands of Hispanics in Texas toward the Democratic Party.

The message in Texas is this: If you're Hispanic and wish to vote Republican, that's fine.

Just don't run for elected office. It's still a closed club.
