I guess you're saying a presidential suggestion isn't sufficient, it needs to be a mandate?

I doubt it.

We have too many laws as it is.

The purpose of an intelligent energy statement is to set forth priorities of the US government, why efficiency works, why it is anti-American to emphasize use of oil if other methods work, and why it is pro-American to reduce dependency, and why it improves the overall economy (rather than just Saudi Princes and Texas producers).

It would also have the effect of reducing the criticism of Bush Inc. of being in the pockets of Saudis and Big Oil.

Who approved of Clinton's lack of petrodollar leadership?
Not me.
However, he's not in office anymore. It is now Bush's responsibility, and he is going in the direction of helping his father and buddies, rather than the American people.
