Well, it is an unfortunate fact, Karen, that it is more likely that I would have this conversation with you, who needs it least. I can barely get traction with some of the others. I certainly do not mean to imply that you deserve singling out. I am fine with the second paragraph until you start calling for a "sense of humor". I do not say that having a sense of humor is wrong, I do say that people frequently cross a line under cover of humor, and then make out that the person offended has gotten on a "high horse". But perhaps I should call it a day. On the Scruton: I embrace the Enlightenment. I think that some of what Scruton says is true enough, but that he is mistaken to think that religion must suffer for being civilized, or for the advent of Enlightenment. But that is a more complicated argument than I feel like pursuing right now.....
