blisenko,

"what's up with this?"

Easy one, actually. If you are going to be selling both Windows and Linux boxes then it is wise to bundle products that will run on both. HP may give Corel some incentive for reviving the Linux versions of its products... People will then have a choice and if Microsoft raises the license fees in retaliation, it will only widen the price disparity between the Linux machine and Windows machine. First thing people will ask: "Why is the Windows box $40 more?".

Cheers,
Norm

with out the antitrust trail, this below would have been impossible...... and you shareholders wonder why MSFT had to go through this.... (well they didn't, if they had GOTTEN A CLUE and settled long ago) geesh, and you people are paying good money for this type of management..... nobody in their right mind would have gotten themselves declared an abusive monopoly when settleing would have been so easy.... the money that is going to flow in civil suits is going to be unbelievable....

Corel (CORL) is surging 22 cents, or 15 percent, to $1.70. The software company said that Hewlett-Packard (HWP) will bundle its WordPerfect word processing software across its home and business PCs. A trial version of WordPerfect Office 2002 will be included in HP Pavilion desktop PCs in North America. Users will be able to purchase the full version by "unlocking" technology accessible on their desktops. H-P shares, a component of the Dow industrials ($INDU) , is down 7 cents at $18.08
