Yes, you're right. That's what I should do. Funny thing, but I must have missed out on the crock pot craze whenever that struck. I never did get one. I winter when I wanted to cook stuff on a "slow cooker", I used to put a large stock pot onto a trivet on top of the woodstove and could leave it there for hours... same with beans in an enamel roasting pan.
