I think your speaking of the anarchist wing of Libertaria there. They are, ah, different. Their problem is that they need to move to a planet where anarchy will actually work. This isn't it.

Similarly, a libertarian philosophy sounds good until you realize that people would have no checks (no pun intended) on their behavior.

I'm not advocating anarchy, merely that the GOVERNMENT take a minimalist approach. There would, of course, still be laws against harming other people, including laws that disallow harming others by letting toxic crap from your foundry run onto their property. It's just that the government wouldn't be supporting or babying people or companies or telling them how to live their lives or their businesses as long as they didn't hurt anyone. That's not anarchy.

Libertarianism is not a philosophy of no government but rather minimal government. Fraud, violence, and abuse could be illegal, while prostitution, narcotics, and guns would be legal and business would face less regulation.

Also you can be libertarian without being an extremist libertarian or being against every form of government intervention.

Edit -

When I went to Hong Kong, bastion of economic power that it is, I was surprised and shocked to see a hungry, handless/legless man on a wheeled tray peddling pencils with his forearms. Industrial accident no doubt. No, that is not my vision of an ideal world. Socialistic capitalism is here to stay.

If Hong Kong had been more socialistic there would have still been a lot of poor suffering people. True you might have had more equality, the people would be more equally poor.
