I flew for the first time last week and was surprised that my new titanium neck didnt set off the alarms. Then again, when I sat in my seat on the plane, I noticed my cell phone, inadvertently left in my suit pocket, didn't set it off either.

Walk or drive. :-)

There are some technical problems: the classic metal detectors won't find explosives or plastic weapons. Machines which can detect explosives cost millions.

And there are other problems. The people and companies that were there before are still there.

And passengers don't want the waits that tight security can cause with automated detection systems. Neither do the airlines. It kills business. People have already noticed that for trips of, say, under 500 miles, it can be faster to drive than fly. And you don't need to rent a car at the other end.

Fear not, everything will be fixed. Did you see this paragraph?

"Department of Transportation spokesman Lenny Alcivar said the tests reflected the
problems with the old security system. "

At least, I hope they will be fixed, I'm flying to England in June. I was there last year prior to 9/11. Security was a LOT tighter there then than it was here. Of course, they've had terrorist attacks there for many years and it was also during the foot and mouth problem. Which brings me to ask "When is Bush going to crack down on the US citizens who supported the IRA terrorists?". Remember, that "You're either with us or against us in the war on terror.". Some how, I don't think it will happen.

I think there is less to worry about than you might imagine. Most likely, unless there is help from airline or airport personnel on the ground, hijacker/terrorists are likely to be lightly armed. And post 9/11, passengers are not going to sit still for any more BS because they know it will probably cost them their lives. Passengers will band together as they did in the bomber incident and overpower the animals who perpetrate these types of acts....
