Then you are in favor of such regulations for SUVs? People who are opposed to them are so because they don't have to conform.

tariffs and excises on oil target the source of the very problem. the oil. no reason to be punitive towards anyone who owns an suv or other gas hog. maybe some people keep their suv parked in the garage for most of the year and like to have the suv for weekend excursions with the family or for winter use in the snow. you shouldn't have to pay more for owning a gas hog, you should only pay more for being a gas hog.

the simple way is to tax the energy source itself. you guzzle gas, you pay up. you want an immediate tax cut? no need to pray congress will give you one, simply conserve!
