I'm not for banning suv's. I am merely pointing out the silliness of the reasons why most people buy them. I would say that the slack they are granted (if any) as far as pollution or gas mileage breaks shouldn't be, why should they have special treatment?

My stance on immigration is already well known, I believe. LOL.

If memory serves me, Europe has imposed excise taxes on petroleum was larger than ours for many years. It is supposed to motivate people to conserve.

I recall hearing about Gas prices of $2 per liter when we a little over $1 per gallon. That would have been seven or eight times as high.

Unfortunately, like all tax revenues, once politicians start receiving, they want to spend it. Once an item is budgeted, they are always unwilling to cut it later. If someone mentions cutting even a temporary line item, they are demagogued for their heartlessness.
