"Roy, however, argued that in the medium term, "vendor lock-in will allow some companies to navigate the difficult economic waters," while longer term, "breakthrough" technologies should drive company fundamentals.

The analyst did say that though he believed in the prospects of the entire group, some companies appear to have dominant positions over their direct competitors. For instance, Roy believes that Brocade holds a strong position in switching, which leaves McData (MCDT:Nasdaq - news - commentary - research - analysis) and Inrange (INRG:Nasdaq - news - commentary - research - analysis) struggling against the company's marketing and sales power.
