Juniper sees no restructuring after profit warning
AFX News Asia, 3/27/2002 5:29:00 PM

SAN FRANCISCO, Mar 27, 2002 (AFX-Asia via COMTEX) -- Juniper Networks Inc does not see "restructuring as a consequence" of the projected lower earnings, said chief executive officer Scott Kriens.

Speaking on a conference call after the company warned that first-quarter sales would fall short of previous guidance, Kriens said Juniper would continue to practise financial discipline and manage its expenses carefully.

The company's gross margin is now expected to come in at 58-60 pct, lower than previous guidance, said chief financial officer Marcel Gani.

Previously Gani had said, he expected the gross margin to remain stable going forward, after rising in the fourth quarter to 61.1 pct from 60.4 pct in the prior quarter.

The company now expects first-quarter sales to fall to 120-125.0 mln usd. Previous guidance had been for sales of 150-155.0 mln usd, while First Call/Thomson Financial consensus estimate was 138.95 mln usd.

Juniper's first-quarter pro forma EPS is expected to be slightly above breakeven, lower than previous company's forecast of 3 cents. The First Call/Thomson Financial consensus estimate was EPS of 2 cents.
