Two possibilities

- the different nordic operators would each merge with some of the major middle-european
- construction of one large enough nordic operator to compete

"merger of equals" (or agreements to that goal) are often more productive than others,
that is, my personal guess is that the "unequal" merger of Telia-Sonera will make it
easier for some others to follow, maybe even the norwegians.

One market-technical factor has maybe been that Sonera was first to privatize, road
high on the bubble, Telia got started on the falling edge. That is, the merger maybe
had to wait until the market-value of the two were kind of compatible, due to some
mechanism of using "last year market value" as one limit on how to exchange
shares,etc..

Bottom line, this "nordic-dimension-phone" ("nordic dimension" includes more than plain
nordic or scandinavia, also scotland and st petersburg- russia, baltics, kind of the way
it was "before") now seems to have got started

Norway is intersting, outside EU for some good domestic reasons, oil as a common thing with
both UK and especially Russia.

Denmark with "close" relations to the southern baltics, germany, the other small european
nations (Finland-Estonia is obviously the closest, a respectful merger is maybe closer than
one might expect, the St Petersburg area also very "hot", but more "technicalities")

Iceland has some great DSP guys, and should have some sites for serious (nato) RF stuff..

Additionally the "legion of small, present and future, EU-nations" will probably offset the
big ones fairly well, if no major mistakes are made.

Bottom, bottom line, good that it got going, more to follow, surely.

PS All written in accordance to the fairly general finnish view of "the nordic dimension",
when business was done by freely rowing and sailing all over the regions, west-east
and north-south.

Spain, Turkey, Hungary, etc fits within the "small ones" concept.
(the goal a balanced, happy family)
