apple's market share doubled when the old iMac was introduced and then revamped to the color line, market share went to something like 9%....

Pfft. That ain't the case in either US market share or World market share. There was a small blip up in Q1'00 after a particularly dismal Q4'99. Apart from that the numbers are ugly. Here's actual data:
