LeMetropoleCafe april 1th 2002

Three years ago I went to Torreon, Mexico with a distinguished contingent from the gold industry to visit the mining operation of ECU Silver. The credentials of the delegation were top-shelf and a review of my trip can be read in the JJ Library, dated 2/25/99.

I bought a bunch of shares in the company as did other Café members with the idea that ECU could do very well with silver just treading water at $5. It was along about that time that The Gold Cartel was aggressively asserting itself. We all thought at the time that ECU ought to be a nice conservative play.

However, the company went right into the tank many months later as the price of silver was trashed, taken closer to $4 than $5 and the former management performed most ineptly. Fortunately, Michelle Roy, whom I met on the trip, stepped in to take over the helm of the company and has managed to keep the doors open and the wolves at bay.

Michelle is very talented. My hat goes off to him. It would appear that if silver flies, like I expect it to, Michelle will have an opportunity to work his magic. The following are a couple of emails from Michelle Roy that should be of interest to long suffering ECU Silver shareholders:

Dear Mr. K,
Thanks for your interest. We have a web site but it is not current. We have been working to develop several options for the Company`s future and nothing has been finalized yet.

Currently, we are working with Hecla mining on a project in Durango and our mines, near Velardena, are on stand-by awaiting favorable economic conditions. The situation would evolve rapidly should the prices of gold and silver continue to rise.

Hi Bill,
As you know I am still a member of the cafe even if I do not follow the chat, I read a lot of articles. A few members have asked me for information and I answered them directly. I have no problem with informing your members. However, I have little to say except that we are still alive and have paid an important part of our debts. We closed the Santa Juana mine because we could not get sufficient recoveries to pay for our costs with only a limited mill capacity available after the mill was sold to Hecla to satisfy the bank. We have managed to maintain our key personnel and are now mining a small vein on a property belonging to Hecla. This covers our costs and will likely generate interesting revenues now that precious metals prices are going our way. We are currently working on the future, which looks much better than it did a year ago.

Hang in there, Michelle. The coming silver price explosion might just make us all well and then some.
