Total debt as of Q1 '02 was $17.734 billion. Add in the recent convert issue and you're well over $19 billion. Given that the company is still cash flow and net income negative for the current quarter, I don't see any way that number is below $19 billion.

And how do you get LU's enterprise value BTW, if not by asset value?

Enterprise value of LU is the market value of the stock plus the market value of the debt. The market value of the stock is an easy number to calculate. The book value of the debt is usually a pretty good proxy for the market value of the debt.

The book value of the assets doesn't come into the calculation at all.
