TV, re: AMD roadmaps, T-Bred "supposed to be available for all of Q1"

We have discussed this before - but AMD's roadmap slipped in the Jan 30 BoA presentation so that mobile T-Bred was not a 1Q02 release. See roadmap collection here: home.attbi.com

AMD's oral statements have continued to note T-Bred shipments this quarter and perhaps the discrepancy is the result of introduction period required for notebooks? Regardless, AMD's schedules for both desktop and notebook processors have slipped since the Nov 11 Analyst Conference.

TV, Re: <Don't you think that, back in December, AMD was envisioning an earlier release than end of March?>

It could be. But on January 16th,in the 4Q01 CC, Jerry said "The 130nm Athlons, which internally are code named thoroughbred, are widely sampled at customers, will commence production this quarter."

Then Hector said "and the silicon that currently is in process on Hammer is an SOI, so we will get to learn a lot about it as the silicon comes out, which is imminent any time."

Now, when I hear 'will commence production' I hear they're going to start wafers planned for sale down the production line. And I also hear that -- as of the 16th -- they hadn't started down the line.

And when I hear "the silicon that currently is in process on Hammer" I think if they had to make a choice they made a good one. What do you think?

Don't forget, that in the 3Q01 CC, when asked "what would you say are your top three initiatives are for year 2002 and have you planned to go about accomplishing those."

Jerry replied -- "Hammer, Hammer, Hammer"!!!( and Mirror bit as #4.

Tbred wasn't on the list.

It should be noted that in the same cc Erik Chin asked "My understanding is that you will ramp .13 process sometime in December. Is that still on track at this point?"

Hector responded "Yes it is , we're on plan to begin production before the end of the year.".

It is clear that didn't happen *FOR PRODUCTION CHIPS*.
