I sympathize, but it is a recipe for disaster. The time for killing Arafat is past. Now, it would only enflame the situation, and lead to greater radicalization. The West Bank is not merely a repository of refugee camps, but is full of indigenous Arabs. Right now, there is legitimacy to the claim that Israel did not force out the Arabs, but that will be lost if people are uprooted from their homes and villages in the West Bank. Forcing the acceptance of Israeli citizenship will tip the demographic balance in a way that no Israeli government would tolerate. And threatening Mecca is the one sure way of getting that portion of the Arab world that does not participate actively in anti- Israeli or anti- American activities to support them. Right now, Turkey has few fundamentalist radicals, and is our ally. Morocco is relatively pro- Western. Malaysia and Indonesia, with large Muslim populations, have few citizens who are involved with international terrorism. Do we want the whole Muslim world against us? In general, I am afraid that we cannot cut the Gordian knot so easily.......
