Hynix-Micron Talks to Last Several More Weeks (Update2)

Ichon, South Korea, March 28 (Bloomberg) -- Hynix Semiconductor Inc. Chief Executive Park Chong Sup said negotiations to sell the debt-ridden Korean company's assets to U.S.-based Micron Technology Inc. will last several more weeks.

``I expect negotiations will be over in a few more weeks,'' Park said at Hynix's annual shareholders' meeting. ``Both sides agree that we don't have a lot of time to drag on negotiations.''

Hynix, the third-largest computer-memory-chip maker, has been talking to bigger rival Micron since early December. Their alliance could create the largest computer-memory-chip maker, overtaking Samsung Electronics Co.

The Korean chipmaker is saddled with 6.25 trillion won ($4.7 billion) of debt even after two multibillion-dollar bailouts from creditors in nine months. That gives banks first claim on assets that were in some cases used as collateral for loans.
