Affluence...?

Weather ?

Jobs ?

Opportunity ?

Nice place to live ?

Decent place for kids education ?

And though i put it last...I have seen tons and tons of people take up US passports simply coz it allows for easier travel thru all countries....

And no, don't laugh...that was their reason...and I am serious....!

Changing countries for employment opportunities is pretty much like changing jobs. Few have job loyalties these days.

You think most Arab nationals settled in US give a damn about US culture per se ?

Or do you think the Japanese in some ways prefer the US culture ?

Indians and Pakistanis maybe ?

Nah.......I wouldn't swap who I am and where I am from, for anything in this world...and neither would any self respecting person......

Not trying to diss US culture at all here...it has its good points, it has its bad points, just like any other culture of the world....just saying that everyone thinks of their own home as being the best, most comfortable, most valuable....home is the best...and to assume majority of the people are disloyal to their own kind, their own home, their own nation, well...i think there is a descrepency in understanding the human nature....

Most people will swap contries to work, to have a prosperous life...but very few will willingly give up their pride in their religion, their background, their values and their beliefs....not even for a US passport...! <smile>

Its just the way human beings are....

I know this sounds very unromantic, not what most want to hear....but, its the practical aspect of human life. This isn't even about me...or what i believe in. Its just a group psychological analysis of emigrants....and how they feel.

A few try to create a sense of belonging in their kids...adapt them to US values, make them appreciate all you talk about, so as to reduce or eliminate the identity crisis in their kids. Most people don't do that though. They'll make their kids follow their own cultural background...the kids are sandwiched.......and don't seem to belong anywhere...yet, the parents insist...why ? Coz they are proud of who they are, and are trying to keep *their* culture alive.
