I think children should watch the "Rainforest Shmainforest" South Park episode to get the appropriate perspective.

You need Real Player. Click on the first image on this page:

>>think about a 2 million+ Km2 (nick-named Green Hell here) of area like their back yard. << well, did you not know this?! We're VERY assymetric (must be the climate)

One thing - to throw some extra sand in the wheels - it looks like the last (over-the-thumb) half a Myears are extraordinary silent (!!) in terms of violent climatic changes. IOW seems like it was a geological window of opportunity for human species. What an intelligent design;

<In the case of forests, I think it is the books they listened to their parents reading before going to bed. I read to my daughter and it dawned on me I am creating a rain forest type of kid. (God forbid!)>

Try "Secret Garden" or "Mandy and her Wunk".....

Elmatador:

<<You know like Americans so incensed about defense, which is a result of they watching too many western films where they saw people barricade against furious savages>>

<<...the northerners have listened to those stories and they think about a 2 million+ Km2 (nick-named Green Hell here) of area like their back yard. >>

I think people can be divided into two groups: those that view life as a battle versus nature (ie, the green hell - i love that expression!) and those that view it as a competition with other humans (always ready to find an opponent that need to be vanquished - for whatever mindless reason).

The development of an individual into one of these two types is very possibly the result of nothing more significant than some casual imprinting done in childhood.

<<why [are] northern people's mind as so fired-up by this rain forests thing.>>

the religion thing has already been done. we needed to find new ways tell other people how to run their lives...
