I have not found it to be the equivalent of TV. We are probably looking for different stuff- but I use the net to plan lessons. I was just doing one on introducing calculators to the classroom. I wanted to give a brief history of computers and computer like machines as an introduction to the lesson. I easily found a lovely site on Turin, and another on Jacquard looms, and so much more. I find the net amazingly useful. My lessons for my classes would not be as well researched and as broad ranging if I did not have the net.

There's too much junk out there now. If someone designed a search engine that only showed .edu's and people's personal pages, I think it'd be a huge success.
