Thanks JC.
I don't happen to have done any of those things, so obnoxious to believers, because I'm not a member of any group or party to any lawsuit, but lucky me, I get to feel the backlash anyway. Don't tell me it smacks of paranoia when our past President has said he isn't sure atheists should even be citizens. I have seen extreme hatred on SI for those who are not religious. And it is frightening to see. It is patronizing and insensitive of you to call it paranoia, when I do not believe you understand the situation at all. My children would get called names at school if they told people they are agnostics. You try hiding in a closet and hiding your children there, and then tell me how it feels. Until then, your opinion lacks meaning for me.

Singing Christmas carols in school is one of my favorite memories.... When I was 11 years old, one of the neighborhood "good guys" gathered up a bunch of us kids and we practiced singing about ten different carols in the weeks before Christmas.... Then on a perfect windless snowy Christmas Eve, we walked around the neighborhood singing out loud (not too badly by now) <g>, with people peeking out of their windows, mostly pleasantly surprised. The older folks appreciated it the most. The year was 1962, and it was a wonderful experience. If this was done in the same neighborhood this Christmas Eve, I would fear for the safety of the singers. I cannot remember the name of the man who gathered us kids together back then, but I would like to thank him for the fond memories....
