'human life begins at conception
Doesn't that imply that sperm and eggs are dead before conception?

>> So... under your scheme... if 'human life begins at conception and should be protected as such', then:
1) Most forms of birth control would be illegal. <<

how so? an egg and a sperm are not a human life. they are potential human life. only when the sperm fertilizes the egg does life begin.

>> 2)Cigarette smoking, drinking, medications (legal and illegal), over-indulgence in fatty fast foods by the mother could easily all also be illegal... because of the harm to the unborn. <<

you cannot control what people choose to put in their body, even if you wanted to. but we as a society can seek to prevent women from going to a doctor to suck the life out of their baby. there is no gray area with abortion. we know that abortion results in death every single time. you cannot equate things like eating fatty foods and smoking to abortion because there is no certainty that engaging in these acts will cause injury to the unborn child. fatty foods are not necessarily bad for you. that poses another problem. the government is incapable of distinguishing what is good food for people and what is bad food, so they have no business legislating what i can and cannot eat. abortion on the other hand leads to death of the unborn 100% of the time, so government knows with certainty the result of the action of abortion.

>> 4) Oh wait... What about the man? How can we determine his culpability in some of these events... or should we leave all of the onus to 'perform morally' up to the women? <<

if abortion is made illegal and a man helps the women to commit the crime of abortion, he should be held liable as well. this could include the father and most definitely the doctor.
