Interesting. Like JLA, I have a hard time believing that a sitting president would utter those words in the context you've alleged. It's so unconstitutional, it's laughable.

I found the whole thing pretty memorable. But then it was aimed at people almost like me. Other people do not even notice these things, because they are not aimed at them. Which is why I realize that it is possible for people to feel alienated, for it to be true that they are being alienated and for other people not to notice. When people complain about feeling alienated, I try to pay attention, because the mere fact that I may not have noticed the comments, or systemic problems that alienate them, does not mean the factors that bother them do not exist. I would never accuse anyone of paranoia about this sort of thing without careful research, in other words. Although the research doesn't have to be too careful to find the bigotry against atheists and agnostics.
