At one time a Rolex may have been better than the average watch you get in kmart, but not any more. It's strictly a piece of jewelry now.

I don't even think that Timex makes a mechanical watch anymore
LOL, and Rolex does not make quartz watches.

Several years ago I worked for a pawn shop corporation. I learned a few non-technical tricks there. One was the role of the Rolex in the aftermarket. The Rolex company will pay big dollars, about $1500 for any running Rolex. This sets a minimum price much the way DeBeers sets a minimum price on diamonds. Pawn shops will gladly pay 50% to 75% of the minimum price since they know they can sell all they have right back to the company.

J.F.

I love watches. I have a Timex mechanical watch that I purchased new about 10 years ago. I didn't realize that mechanicals have been dropped.

I cannot dispute that quartz watches are more accurate than mechanicals. That is not the point of owning a mechanical watch. Owning a mechanical watch, is like owning a shirt made of cotton, rather than cotton-polyester blend. Also, such a watch, due to its cost, is repaired, rather than disposed of. Why Rolex has such status, is another matter. Rolex has managed their brand in a manner, that no other watch manufacturer has been able to do.

BTW, Rolex often not considered the "top of the heap", as far as fine watches go. But they do make a quartz watch that I understand, has circuitry that compensates for temperature changes - that effect the oscillations of the quartz crystal.

A lawyer opened the door of his BMW, when suddenly a car came along and hit the door, ripping it off completely.

When the police arrived at the scene, the lawyer was complaining bitterly about the damage to his precious BMW. "Officer, look what they've done to my Beeeeemer!" he whined.

"You lawyers are so materialistic, you make me sick!" retorted the officer. "You're so worried about your stupid BMW, that you didn't even notice that your left arm was ripped off!"

"Oh my God," replied the lawyer, finally noticing the bloody
left shoulder where his arm once was. "Where's my Rolex?!?"
